Our scooter dealer

In London you don't get anywhere in a car, even at the weekend when the congestion charge is not due. That's why it was one the best ideas of 2008 to buy a scooter (Vintage 1960) and just zoom past everyone in the traffic jam. We bought our Vespa at Scooter Emporium. Marco and his team import them directly from Italy and restore them beautifully. Definitely worth a visit, not just because the shop is close to famous Brick Lane.

My blog is called "Kraut in the City"

When you look up "Kraut" in Wikipedia, you'll find the following entry:
The German word Kraut when standing alone in English is used most frequently as an ethnic slur against German people. Kraut is also used as an abbreviation for the traditional German and central European food, sauerkraut.

Since World War II, Kraut has, in the English language, come to be used as a derogatory term for a German used mainly by U.S. and British soldiers fighting in Europe. This is probably based on Sauerkraut, which was very popular in German cuisine at that time. The stereotype of the sauerkraut-eating German dates back to long before this time though and can be seen, for example, in Jules Verne's depiction of the evil German industrialist Schultz, an avid sauerkraut eater, in "The Begum's Millions".
Ironically, the per capita consumption of kraut in the USA during World War II was significantly higher than in Germany[citation needed]. Now the average per capita consumption is twice as high as in the USA,[1] but still lower than in France.[2]

Krautrock is a popularly accepted term for a form of highly experimental German post-Prog Rock of the late 1960s and 1970s. Krautrock was typified by acts such as Amon Düül, Kraftwerk, Neu!, Tangerine Dream, Faust, Can as well as many others.

I love Sauerkraut and that's why I also like the term, even though I have never been addressed that way whilst I lived in the UK.

"The City" is short for the City of London, the place where I used to live and work from April 2007 to March 2009.

The City of London is a geographically small city within Greater London, England. It is the historic core of London around which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City’s boundaries have remained almost constant since the Middle Ages, and hence it is now only a tiny part of the much larger London metropolis. It is often referred to as the City or the Square Mile, as it is almost exactly one square mile (2.6 km²) in area.
These terms are also often used as metonyms for the United Kingdom's financial services industry, which is principally based there.
